Mahomet-Seymour’s top five runners had a split of 56.43 seconds on Saturday (Nov. 6), helping the Bulldogs to an eighth-place finish in the 28-school boys’ Class 2A IHSA state cross-country meet at Detweiller Park, in Peoria.
Senior Kyle Nofziger was the team leader, covering the 3-mile course in 15:27.26. He was 27th in a race with 235 runners and missed all-state status by 6.23 seconds.
The top 25 runners in each race were accorded all-state laurels.

Two other seniors followed Nofziger. Joseph Scheele was 50th (15:48.59) and Jonah Singer was 68th (15:58.96).
The other scoring runners for M-S were juniors Ben Wallace (109th in 16:15.82) and Hayden Grotelueschen (133rd in 16:23.69).
Rounding out the lineup for coach Neal Garrison’s team were seniors Taylor Fan (169th in 16:46.04) and John Tender (217th in 17:26.19).
The top teams in the 2A race were Oak Park Fenwick (120 points), Deerfield (141), Morton (164) and Maple Park Kaneland (185).
M-S was eighth with a composite score of 265 points.
