M-S boys’ basketball falls to unbeaten Effingham
By Fred Kroner
Unbeaten Effingham (7-0) broke away from a 33-33 halftime deadlock on Wednesday (Feb. 17) to hand the Mahomet-Seymour boys’ basketball team a 69-62 Apollo Conference loss at home.
Effingham led 19-14 after one stanza before the Bulldogs pulled into a halftime tie with a late 8-0 run in the second quarter.
“We were unable to turn over that momentum in the third quarter,” M-S coach Ryan Bosch said.
Eli Warren had his fourth consecutive double-figure game, scoring a team-high 18 points for M-S. Luke Koller hit a season-high 14 points and Braden Finch hit a three-pointer for the fourth game in a row, and added nine points.
Koller and Quinton McCullough each grabbed seven rebounds. Koller and Zach Carr handed out five assists apiece.
Bosch said the final score isn’t indicative of the quality of play that he saw.
“We probably played our most complete game of the season,” Bosch said. “We’ve got to do a lot better job on both sides of the ball, but we missed our opportunities.
“We’ll hopefully start turning a corner as we get back into a routine and get in the gym for some practice time, which will be key for us moving forward.”
M-S (2-2) returns to action on Friday at Lincoln before returning home on Saturday to face non-conference opponent Rantoul.
