The Mahomet-Seymour Community Unit School District No. 3 Board of Education has approved a $705,900 bid from Barber & DeAtley to serve as the general contractor for a new secured entry project at Mahomet-Seymour Junior High. The decision was made during the board meeting on March 24.
The project will feature a double-entry system and improved sightlines for staff to monitor visitors entering the building. This setup will focus on the check-in process, aligning with measures already in place at other district buildings.
The bid from Barber & DeAtley came in $139,100 under the original estimate. Funding for the project will be drawn from the district’s Tort Fund as part of the risk plan approved earlier this fiscal year. The bid also includes an $80,000 construction allowance to address unforeseen conditions during construction, with any unused funds to be returned to the district as a credit upon project completion.
The bid process concluded on March 13, 2025, with two contractors submitting proposals. After reviewing the submissions, BLDD Architects confirmed that Barber & DeAtley’s bid met all requirements and recommended its acceptance. This is not the first time Barber and DeAtley has worked on a project for the Mahomet-Seymour School District with BLDD.
