M-S Basketball reaches 20-win mark
By Fred Kroner
For the first time in 15 years, a girls’ basketball team from Mahomet-Seymour has reached the 20-win mark in a season.
The Bulldogs achieved that rare accomplishment on Monday (Jan. 24) at Mount Zion, topping the Braves, 73-41.
M-S still has a minimum of eight games remaining as it targets the school record for wins in a season (25).
Cayla Koerner led the Bulldogs in scoring for the sixth consecutive game. She netted 14 points. She hit two three-pointers as did teammate Durbin Thomas.
Nichole Taylor contributed 12 points, including eight in the second quarter as M-S turned a 13-12 lead into a 31-22 margin at halftime.
Savannah Orgeron netted nine points. Ivie Juarez added eight points.
Juarez and Chloe Pruitt pulled down six rebounds apiece. Orgeron cleared four rebounds. Koerner, Taylor and Thomas each collected three steals.
M-S (20-4 overall and 5-2 in the Apollo Conference) returns to action on Thursday (Jan. 27) at Charleston.
