Live Nativity set for Sunday
The Mahomet Lutheran Church will present their annual Live Nativity on Sun. from 4 to 7 p.m. in the drive in front of the church.
The nativity will include Mary, Joseph, Jesus, Shepards, Kings and angels. Sheep, lambs, a camel and donkey also come from Indiana Loft River Game Farm.
“The camel is probably the most important character (at the nativity) besides baby Jesus,” Evangelism Chairperson Pete Farm said. “Everyone gets a kick out of seeing a camel in Central Illinois.”
The Nativity will begin earlier than usual so people can view it in the daylight.
Guests are invited to come inside the church for holiday treats, crafts and caroling inside the fellowship hall. A small woodwind group will also play in the fellowship hall for an hour.
“We consider the live nativity our Christmas card to the Mahomet and Champaign community,” Farm said. “It reminds people the reason for the season, and it gives everyone a chance to be involved in the Christmas story.”
The Lutheran Church invites community members to join in the festivities by putting on a costume and taking on a Christmas story character. When a young couple joined the group a few years ago, the congregation talked about the addition all year. Approximately five to 10 people outside the congregation joined last year.
