Lincoln Trail Elementary Set for Playground Upgrade

The Mahomet-Seymour Board of Education has approved a significant upgrade to the playground facilities at Lincoln Trail Elementary School. The decision, made during the March 24 meeting, aims to address the lack of adequate play equipment and improve accessibility for students requiring ADA accommodations.

Funding and Costs

The total cost of the playground improvements and installation is estimated at $114,715.05. Funding for this project will come from multiple sources:

  • PTO Dawg Walk Donations: $67,194.85 from the Lincoln Trail activity account.
  • Additional PTO Contribution: $20,000.
  • Foundation Donation: Up to $15,000.
  • Private Donation: $25,000.

Any remaining funds after the installation will be allocated toward potential turf enhancements if approved.

Vendor and Equipment Details

The improvements will be carried out by Gametime through Cunningham Recreation, utilizing cooperative pricing. Gametime was previously involved in the first phase of the Middletown Prairie playground project and was selected as the sole bidder for that phase. The new playground equipment includes modular play units designed for children aged 5-12, featuring slides, climbers, transfer platforms, and ADA-accessible components such as hand cyclers and bongos.

Addressing Accessibility

The upgrade is particularly focused on improving accessibility for students with disabilities. Currently, Lincoln Trail Elementary has no equipment that accommodates ADA needs. The new installations aim to create an inclusive play environment for all students.
