Kogut and Lunney Reach Finals at Apollo Conference Tennis Tournament, Mahomet-Seymour Ties for Third

Two Mahomet-Seymour entries in the boys’ Apollo Conference tennis tournament at Mount Zion advanced into championship matches before suffering a loss.
At No. 5 singles, Caidan Kogut was second as was Samuel Lunney at No. 6 singles.
Kogut prevailed in the semifinals, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, before dropping a 6-1, 6-1 decision in the finals.
Lunney was victorious in the semifinals, 6-1, 7-5, but suffered his first loss of the season in the finals, 6-1, 6-0.
His overall season record is 9-1.
Other Bulldog singles placers were Caleb Bushue (2-2 and third at No. 2), Elliott Religioso (1-2 and fourth at No. 4), Jacob Atteberry (1-1 and fifth at No. 1) and William Bao (1-1 and fifth at No 3).
In doubles, Bao and Religioso won two of three matches at No. 2 and finished third.
Also taking third was the duo of Jack Louis and Lunney. They were 1-1 at No. 3.
The M-S entry at No. 1 doubles, Atteberry and Bushue went 1-1 and ended in fifth place.
Mattoon (12 points) won the team crown in the two-day event which ended on Saturday (May 10). Host Mount Zion was second (eight points). M-S and Effingham tied for third place (seven points apiece). Charleston (six points) was fifth and Taylorville placed sixth.
On Thursday (May 9), M-S dropped an 8-1 decision to Centennial.
The lone Bulldog to garner a win was Louis at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-1. He is 2-0 in singles this season.
M-S returns to action on Friday (May 17) in the nine-school Centennial Class 1A Sectional. Schools will enter two competitors in singles and have two other entries in doubles.
