Kobe Essien to play baseball at Quincy University
Mahomet-Seymour’s Kobe Essien has committed to continue his baseball career at Quincy University.
A NCAA Division II school, which is a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, the Hawks were 10 – 6 prior to the remainder of the Spring 2020 season being canceled. Under the direction of Josh Rabe, a two time All-American with the Hawks, Quincy University had a 41-18 record during the 2019 season, capturing a fourth straight NCAA tournament berth and a GLVC Championship for the second straight year.
Essien, a two-time letter winner in both basketball and baseball, made eight starts on the mound for the Bulldogs in 2019, compiling a 1.45 earned run average while amassing 78 strikeouts in just 43.1 innings. Kobe’s efforts earned him First Team Apollo Conference All-Conference honors for the spring 2020 campaign.
As part of the Mahomet-Seymour Basketball program, Essien played in 62 varsity contests, scoring 431 points while gathering 147 rebounds. Kobe was a News-Gazette Honorable-Mention selection on the All-Area basketball team for his efforts during the 2019-2020 season.
