Kearns and Varga win individual events at Urbana

Owen Kearns and Aron Varga each won two individual events on Thursday (Jan. 19) – as Mahomet-Seymour had a meet for the second straight night – but the Bulldogs came up just short at Urbana, 88-86.
M-S also posted a 103-41 win over Charleston.
The meet served as Senior Night for M-S.
The team’s seven seniors are: Kam Bartels, Avery Rosa, Wayne Schwaiger, Sabian Simpson, Aaron Smith, Ezekiel Spitzner and Ethan Whittaker.
Kearns won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1 minute, 56.38 seconds) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:08.23).
Varga was triumphant in the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.01) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.46).
Kearns and Varga were also on two victorious relay units.
They were joined by Smith and Emmett Kearns in the 200-yard medley relay (1:49.11).
The winning 200-yard freestyle relay consisted of the same four swimmers and was timed in 1:36.33.
Emmett Kearns was the runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.79). Smith was second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.38) and Matthew Kirby was second in the 500-yard freestyle (6:23.01).
Also finishing in the second position was the 400-yard freestyle foursome of Kirby, Rosa, Whittaker and Jeremiah Pryor. They were timed in 4:31.01.
Capturing third-place finishes were Smith (50-yard freestyle in 25.92 seconds) and Emmett Kearns (200-yard freestyle in 2:03.29).
M-S (9-5) returns to action on Saturday (Jan. 28) in the Urbana Invitational.
