By Fred Kroner
Mahomet-Seymour junior Kelton Hennesy was the individual champion on Thursday (Sept. 26) in the Apollo Conference boys’ golf tournament at Taylorville.
Hennesy carded a one-under-par 71 and posted a one-stroke victory as he earned all-conference honors for the second year in a row.
M-S captured team honors for the second time in three years, compiling a composite score of 303. Runner-up Charleston (the defending team champion) ended with a score of 304.
One Bulldog besides Hennesy garnered all-conference honors. Reis Claybrooke shot a 73 and tied for third place in the six-school meet.
Claybrooke was also an all-conference golfer two years ago as a sophomore.
Other team leaders for M-S were Cole Thrasher (tied for 12th with a 79) and Carter Henrikson (tied for 16th with an 80).
The top four scores contribute to the final team tally.
Other Bulldog participants at conference were Jacob Schoudel (82) and Jackson Bohm (83).
A year ago, M-S was second in the team standings. In 2022, the team won the conference crown.
On Saturday (Sept. 28), M-S won team honors in the Normal West Better Ball Tournament at Ironwood Golf Club with a collective 6-under-par tally.
The duo of Hennesy and Schoudel finished at 3-under 69. Claybrooke and Thrasher were 2-under at 70. Bohm and Henrickson posted a 1-under-par 71.
The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday (Oct. 2) in the 10-team IHSA Class 2A regional at Danville’s Turtle Run.
