By Fred Kroner
In his first pitching outing of the season, Carter Johnson threw five innings and earned the win as Mahomet-Seymour registered an 8-1 baseball win at Paxton-Buckley-Loda on Monday (April 17).
Johnson allowed four hits, one unearned run and walked two. He struck out three batters and became the seventh Bulldog with a pitching win this year.
Finn Randolph finished with two scoreless innings. He issued one walk and fanned two hitters.
The Bulldogs’ offense was spearheaded by Tyson Finch with two hits and two stolen bases. Johnson and Alex McHale each delivered two RBI.
Scoring two runs apiece were Mateo Casillas, Johnson and Carter Selk.
On Tuesday (April 18), the first three Bulldogs who stepped to the plate not only got on base, but also scored runs. That trio accounted for all of the M-S offense as the Bulldogs held off Pontiac at home 3-2.
Randolph, Blake Wolters and Selk tallied the M-S runs. Wolters drove in the first run. Casillas and Finch also drove in runs, both with one out.
Mason Orton pitched 6 2/3 innings and picked up the win. He allowed five hits and one walk while striking out a season-high 10 batters. Casillas was summoned in relief and needed one pitch to get the game’s final out and earn a save.
M-S (15-3) returns to action on Friday (April 21) at St. Thomas More, in Champaign.
