Jayvon Irwin Leads Mahomet-Seymour Track and Field Team with Double Wins at Pontiac Indoor Meet

Senior Jayvon Irwin was the headliner for the Mahomet-Seymour boys’ track and field team on Thursday (March 14) in a 28-school indoor track and field meet at Pontiac.
Irwin was a double winner, outsprinting all competitors in both the 60- and 200-meter dashes. He established new career-best times in both races.
In the 60 meters, which had 61 entries, Irwin was timed in 7.10 seconds, edging the runner-up who crossed the line in 7.13.
In the 54-runner 200 meters, Irwin’s time was 23.14. The second-place finisher was at 23.25.
Irwin was also part of the 12th-place 800-meter relay, which was clocked in 1:40.91. He was joined by Dylan Smith, Matthew He and Camden Snodsmith.
One other Bulldog runner was an individual winner. Junior Blake Dillman was triumphant in the 600 meters (personal-best 1:27.31). In the 43-runner race, Dillman won by .81.
Five other M-S athletes secured top-10 finishes, including Ethan Ramirez, the runner-up in the 800 meters (personal-best 2:05.33).
Other top-10 placers were Ty Clark (third in the pole vault at 14 feet, 3 inches), Henry McMurry (fourth in the 3,200 meters in a personal-best 10:08.90), Kaleb Kasper (seventh in the 1,600 meters in a personal-best 4:50.57) and Lukas Carey (eighth in the 1,600 meters in a personal-best 4:55.26).
Four other Bulldogs wound up among the top 15 in their events.
Cody Moen was 11th in the 600 meters (personal-best 1:33.91), Seth Christensen was 11th in the pole vault (personal-best 11 feet, 8 inches), Jackson Davis was 14th in the pole vault (10 feet, 3 inches) and Smith was 15th in the 200 meters (personal-best 24.82 seconds).
Team scores were not tabulated at Pontiac.
M-S will return to action on Saturday (March 23) at the Illinois Prep Top Times Meet at the Shirk Center, in Bloomington.
