Whether you want to catch bluegill in a local pond or trout from Lake Michigan, you must purchase an Illinois fishing license before casting your line.
Prices of Illinois fishing licenses vary by the age of the participant, the type of fishing to be done and the length of time the license is needed. They can be purchased throughout the state at convenient locations or some types are available online.
It is important to remain aware of the fishing license expiration date, as annual licenses generally expire on March 31 each year.
The State of Illinois encourages responsible fishing practices, including catch and release methods, which encourages each fish population to thrive. The State also has its own set of fishing laws and regulations, which are set to protect the fish populations.
Within Champaign County, fishing licenses can be purchased at Champaign Rural King, Dicks Sporting Goods, Easy Pay, Hunters Haven, Meijer on North Prospect, Walmart on North Prospect, Casey’s General Store at 502 N Main St. and 201 N. Main St., the Champaign County Forest Preserve in Mahomet, Mahomet Ace Hardware, Philo Pantry, Rantoul Rural King, Walmart in Rantoul or Savoy, Bowmentum Archery, Meijer on Philo Rd., Urbana Farm and Fleet and Walmart on High Cross Road.
