Hughey Secures Second Place with Season’s Second-Best 400m Time at Cabin Fever Invitational

Senior DeAngelo Hughey placed second – with the state’s second-best 400-meter indoor time of the season – on Saturday (March 2) in the 43-school Cabin Fever Invitational at the Dr. Worrill Track and Field Center in Chicago.
In a photo finish, Kankakee’s Jayon Morrow outstepped Hughey at the finish line to win the 400 meters. Morrow’s time was 49.04. Hughey’s time was 49.04.
During the offseason, Hughey and Morrow train together with The Vipers Track Club.
Hughey was one of five Mahomet-Seymour athletes who participated in the primarily Class 3A event.
M-S teammates Blake Dillman and Travis Hoffman each lowered their personal bests in the 400 meters by more than 2 ¼ seconds.
Dillman placed 11th in 51.60 (previous best was 53.97) and Hoffman was 12th in 51.92 (previous best was 54.31).
Another M-S 400-meter runner, Joshua Franklin, was 23rd in 55.80.
Ty Clark finished third in the pole vault (14 feet).
Of the five Bulldogs who entered the meet, Hughey is the lone senior. The other four are juniors.
According to athletic.net, M-S individuals have six top-10 placings on the Class 2A leaderboard along with one Bulldog relay.
Hughey ranks first in the 400 meters, Dillman ranks third in the 400 meters and Hoffman ranks eighth in the 400 meters.
Clark stands third in Class 2A in the pole vault. Hughey ranks fourth in the 200 meters and fifth in the 60 meters.
The M-S 1,600-meter relay – consisting of Hoffman, Dillman, Franklin and Hughey – ranks fifth.
