Howard and O’Donnell win at Peoria Notre Dame

Mahomet-Seymour swimmers Lainey Howard and Talynn O’Donnell won individual events for the Bulldogs on Saturday (Sept. 30) in a six-school girls’ meet at Peoria Notre Dame.
Howard was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in 1 minute, 17.88 seconds. She won the event by 2.36 seconds.
O’Donnell was triumphant in the 50-yard freestyle (25.55 seconds) and was 1.39 seconds in front of the runner-up. She also took third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.97).
Both girls were part of the runner-up 200-yard freestyle along with Claire Waggoner and Caroline Mills. That foursome was timed in 1:50.18.
M-S competitors established season-best performances in five events, including Howard in the 200-yard freestyle (fourth in 2:07.62).
Mills achieved her top marks in two individual events, capturing third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:51.68) and in the 200-yard freestyle (2:11.53).
Christina Peng recorded her top times in both the 100-yard backstroke (ninth in 1:19.52) and the 100-yard freestyle (10th in 1:10.74).
The Bulldogs’ 400-yard freestyle relay, consisting of Mills, Madelyn Logsdon, Howard and O’Donnell ended in third place in 4:03.88.
The 200-yard medley grouping of Peng, Logsdon, Kayleigh and Waggoner placed fifth in 2:22.00.
Moline accumulated 175 points to take team honors. Runner-up Metamora had 145 points, followed by M-S (92), Peoria Notre Dame (70), Danville (21) and First Baptist (2).
The Bulldogs (5-7) return to action on Monday (Oct. 2) at Danville in a meet that also will include Charleston.
