Hoffman Leads Mahomet-Seymour to Success at Mount Zion Relays with 300-Meter Hurdles Victory

Junior Travis Hoffman won the 300-meter hurdles race on Saturday (April 6) in the Mount Zion Relays.
The five-school meet featured a variety of relays, field events and one individual running race, the 300 hurdles.
Hoffman’s time was 41.84 seconds.
Three Bulldog teammates also placed among the top five in the hurdles race and all three registered career-best times.
Cash Bryan was third (49.85 seconds), Landen McConkey was fourth (51.38 seconds) and Dylan Derickson was fifth (54.51).
In the shot put, three M-S participants ended among the top-10. Oliver Smith was second (personal best 39 feet, 6 inches), Trevor Reeves was fourth (personal best 38 feet, 1 inch) and Austin Crull was 10th (personal best 36 feet, 2 inches).
In the discus, Reeves was third (personal best 115 feet, 5 inches), DeAndre Hughey was seventh (personal best 96 feet, 8 inches) and Lars Kellner was eighth (personal best 94 feet, 1 inch).
In the high jump, Camden Snodsmith was third (personal best 5 feet, 6 inches), Luke Johnson was seventh (personal best 4 feet, 10 inches) and Ryken Kirby was eighth (4 feet, 8 inches).
In the long jump, Kirby was second (personal best 19 feet, 9 inches) and Johnson was seventh (personal best 17 feet, 3 inches).
Pole vaulter Ty Clark ended second (9 feet, 9 inches).
Two M-S relays wound up in the runner-up position.
The 800-meter foursome of Jayvon Irwin, Alex O’Brian, Kirby and Dylan Smith was timed in 1:33.66.
Sharing the baton on the second-place 1,600-meter relay were Josh Franklin, O’Brian, Parker Wilkins and DeAngelo Hughey. Their composite time was 3:42.73.
The Bulldog 400-meter grouping of Hoffman, Irwin, Kirby and Steffen Kellner took third in 44.83 seconds.
A 800-meter freshmen-sophomore relay unit of Landen Dowers, Henry Carpenter, Robert Bonham and Xander Shanks finished fourth in 1:52.78.
The 4,000-meter distance medley squad of Tate Bode, Grant Smysor, Parker Wilkins and Gavin Fan ended fifth in 12:17.96.
There was one co-ed relay race.
M-S was victorious in the 400-meter mixed throws relay (limited to runners who had participated in at least one of the throws). The relay consisted of Adelyn Boyd, Hoffman, Kara Carney and Bryan. Their cumulative time was 1:18.07.
In the team competition, Mount Zion swept to victory in the varsity division (123.95 to 79.88) over the runner-up Bulldogs.
In the one freshmen-sophomore race, Springfield Lutheran was first with 10 points and M-S was third with six points.
The Bulldogs will return to action on Monday (April 8) in the only home meet of the regular season, a 4:30 p.m. start against Monticello at Moose Handlin Track.
