Girl Scout troop to host food drive at Middletown Prairie
Mahomet-Seymour Girl Scout Troop #2292 will be hosting a food drive at Middletown Prairie Elementary School from Nov. 18 through the 22.
The troop of 15 second, third and fifth graders will be collecting non-perishable food, hats, gloves, socks and toiletries.
In years past, they have donated toys, purchased meals for families or made scarves for the Helping Hands drive at Lincoln Trail.
“This year the girls wanted to do something bigger,” Troop Leader Kandice Bemount said.
Giving back to their local community through Mom’s Pantry, a food pantry that provides goods for families with students in the Mahomet-Seymour School District, was attractive to the girls.
When they reached out to Ryan Martin, Middletown Prairie’s Principal, he thought it was a good idea, too.
The girls also plan on helping at the Care Closet at Lincoln Trail in the future.
