Gene Hackman’s Cinematic Legacy Celebrated at FischerFest in Danville

The Fischer Theatre is rolling out the red carpet August 16–17 for FischerFest: The Cinematic Legacy of Gene Hackman, a two-day event honoring the illustrious career of Danville’s own Oscar-winning actor.

FischerFest’s lineup will showcase five of Hackman’s most acclaimed films. On Saturday, guests will enjoy Bonnie and ClydeThe French Connection, and Unforgiven. Sunday’s program features Crimson Tide and The Royal Tenenbaums, along with an exclusive “Dessert and Discussion” segment between films, catered by The Local. The Sunday festivities will also spotlight a special art presentation by Katie Weston, who will create a Hackman portrait live.

Throughout the event, Illinois film critics Chuck Koplinski and Pam Powell will share behind-the-scenes stories and interesting trivia before each screening. Audience members can participate in a Q&A after each film, connecting firsthand with cinema experts.

Hackman memorabilia, commemorative t-shirts, and more will be available for purchase.
