From Mackenzie’s View: A warm heart in winter months
BY MACKENZIE BONHAM
Well hello everybody! Wow!! These last two months have flown by fast for this Little Miss! So many fun things have been going on I want to share with you.
First, early January I had the honor to take my check down to the St. Louis, MO Shriner’s Hospital. It was a great feeling being at the hospital that means so much to so many children across the country and to me. The Shriner’s Hospitals for Children in St. Louis also let me know they are laying a brick in the front of the hospital with my name on it. I don’t think they realize how much that really means to me and I can’t wait to go down in the spring to watch it get set. When I return, I will take a tour of the hospital again, and hopefully get to give some hugs out to some amazing doctors, patients, and Shriners! Before we went to the hospital, I shopped for some goodies for the patients while they are waiting and recovering for surgeries. I was able to bring a big tote full of activities, coloring books, and books for them to read.
Speaking of reading, I love to read. When someone asks me what my favorite activity is, I always say reading! At the end of January, I was invited to Middletown Elementary (my old elementary school) and had the pleasure to read to the after-school Kids Club. I read the book Train Your Dragon To Be Kind by Steve Herman. This book is great because it teaches kids to be caring, nice, and best of all…to be KIND!
This month I have had the privilege to serve alongside my #queen sister, Jordy the 2019 Little Miss of the Midwest, at the Ronald McDonald House in Springfield. My mom and I went shopping the day before and grabbed everything we needed to make a good meal for them. We prepared tacos for about twenty-five families staying at the house while their little warriors are fighting hard in the hospital there. At the end of the month, I am going to help Jordy with her next blanket tying event for Blankets of Hope.
Can you believe all the amazing snow we got? I couldn’t help but go out and enjoy the snow falling and took some pictures. I am a country girl, so I got on my four-wheeler and had fun pulling my little sisters around the yard, making snow angels, and had some awesome snowball fights!
I cannot believe it, but Nationals is just 4 months away! That is right! On June 17-21, I will be in Atlanta, Georgia competing for the title of your 2020 Little Miss of America! Because of that, I am still in need of sponsors for this amazing opportunity. Business and individuals that sponsor me, will be advertised in our national ad, on my social media pages, AND I have one more thing to add. As a thank you to my sponsors, I am donating my time back to a charity of their choice. When a business or person sponsors me, their favorite charity will get this happy Little Miss to help out at their organization.
Don’t forget to follow my journeys in the Mahomet Daily!
Until next time…be kind, be awesome, and just be yourself.
Love, Mackenzie Bonham 2019 Little Miss of Illinois
