The Bulldogs made 18 of 19 free throws on Friday at Taylorville and maintained their unbeaten record in Apollo Conference boys’ basketball games.
Mahomet-Seymour decisioned the Tornadoes 71-50.
Grant Coleman and Braden Finch each scored 19 points for M-S, which built a 20-8 lead after one quarter.
The game was the second in a row that Finch hit a new season-high for points scored.
Eli Warren also had his top scoring game, with 17 points. Kobe Essien scored nine points to go with a team-high 10 rebounds.
“The Bulldogs used a variety of defenses to hold the high-powered Taylorville offense at bay and contained the Apollo’s leading scorer, Jase Bergschneider, to 16 points below his season average,” M-S head coach Ryan Bosch said.
Bergschneider tallied 11 points, but was 5-for-20 from the field.
Cole Lener had seven assists and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs. Warren handed out six assists and Coleman corralled three steals.
“The Bulldogs were continuously attacking Taylorville’s aggressive defense to get to the line, where they cashed in,” Bosch added.
M-S, which has a three-game winning streak, returns to action on Saturday with a home game against Normal University High. The Bulldogs are 4-3 overall and 3-0 in Apollo Conference games.
