Four Bulldog golfers advance to Sectional play

Four Mahomet-Seymour golfers advanced to the Class 2A sectional tournament based on their performances on Wednesday (Sept. 29) in the Rantoul Regional at Willow Pond Golf Course.
For the eighth time in 13 meets, freshman Reis Claybrooke was the M-S medalist. He shot a 79.
Also making the cut for sectionals as individuals was senior Erik Christianson (80), junior Blake Harvey (80) and sophomore John Schenker (81).
The Bulldogs’ team composite was 320, which placed the team fourth in the eight-school tournament. The top three teams qualified for the sectional, which will be at Metamora Fields on Monday (Oct. 4).
Other Bulldogs who competed at the regional were seniors Zach Courson (84) and Brian Coyne (89).
Besides the top three teams, which advanced to the sectional, the top10 players not on qualifying teams also moved on.
In the Bulldogs’ final regular-season tune-up on Monday at Lake of the Woods, Courson carded a 37 to lead M-S past Rantoul, 163-184.
Christianson shot a 41, followed by Coyne (42), Jaedon Lager (43), Jackson White (43) and Harvey (44).
The top scorers for the Bulldogs’ junior varsity team were compiled by Schlenker (39), Carter Selk (41), Riley Dowers (42) and Jacob Schoudel (46).
