Five Mahomet-Seymour wrestlers qualify for state

Five underclassmen Mahomet-Seymour wrestlers qualified for the Class 2A state meet on Saturday (Feb. 12) based on their performances at the M-S Sectional.
Continuing their seasons as individuals were junior Caden Hatton (106 pounds), freshman Camden Heinold (120 pounds), sophomore Tallen Pawlak (138 pounds), junior Brennan Houser (170 pounds) and junior Mateo Casillas (195 pounds).
The Bulldogs had 10 representatives at the sectional and all 10 won at least one match. The team’s cumulative record was 21-15 with seven pins and four wins by technical falls.
Casillas won his weight class, improving his season record to 49-1. He posted a pin and a win by technical fall. He was 3-0 at the sectional and has won 45 consecutive matches.
Both Hatton and Houser placed second in their respective weight classes. They were each 2-1 at the sectional. Hatton registered a pin and a technical fall.
Pawlak won three of his four sectional bouts and finished in third place.
Heinold recorded two pins among his three wins and ended in fourth place.
The top four in each of the 14 weight classes qualified for the three-day state meet, which starts on Thursday (Feb. 17) at the University of Illinois State Farm Center.
M-S’ other sectional competitors were: sophomore Gage Decker (2-2 at 132 pounds with two pins), senior Braeden Heinold (1-2 at 152 pounds with one pin); senior Jacob Dobbins (2-2 at 160 pounds with one technical fall win), junior Colton Crowley (1-2 at 220 pounds) and junior Camden Harms (2-2 at 285 pounds with one technical fall win).
Decker and Harms both lost in the match that guaranteed the winner a berth at state.
