Fisher National Bank growing with the Mahomet community

After thirteen years in the Mahomet community, Fisher National Bank has been recognized for the financial work within their business and their community involvement.

Fisher National Bank was recognized in December as the Mahomet Chamber of Commerce 2012 Business of the Year.

“We really made the commitment to allocate most of our marketing dollars to the community and community events in 2012,” Fisher National Bank Senior Vice President Ryan Heiser said.  “We want to promote our bank, but at the same time we want to be able to provide for the community.”

The bank participated in and sponsored all the 2012 Mahomet Area Chamber Events.  Heiser is a Chamber Board Member.  The bank was the Presenting Sponsor of the Sangamon River Music Festival.

Fisher National Bank has committed $4000 for the 2013 Sangamon River Music Festival.

Heiser and Retail Loan Officer Shannon Malloch served on the Car Show Committee in 2012, and Heiser is the chairman for the event this year.  The Mahomet Chamber of Commerce will host the car show on July 7 this year.

The bank also sponsored the Get Up and Go Expo, Steppin’ Out! Ladies Night Out, the Chamber Golf Outing and they are Platinum Sponsors for Mahomet Recreation.

Since 2007, Fisher National Bank has partnered with the Mahomet Parks and Recreation Department to host an old-fashioned movie night in the spring.  During the free event, the bank provides popcorn, a drink and a movie to visitors at Barber Park.  The event on May 25 was cancelled due to rain.

Each year bank employees sell raffle tickets for the Bulldog Open Golfscramble to raise funds for the Mahomet Boosters.  The event this year is scheduled for June 28 at Lake of the Woods Golf Course.  Fisher National Bank also makes a donation to the Mahomet-Seymour School District each year.

Heiser is a member of the Mahomet Area Activity and Recreation Center Steering Committee.  Vice President of Lending Brady Allison also serves on the Mahomet Area Youth Club Board.

In partnership with Walk Chiropractic, Fisher National Bank co-sponsored the MAYC 5K.

Fisher National Bank also participated in “Light Up Mahomet” for the first time in December.  With impressive lobby and storefront holiday decorations, Fisher National Bank won $100 of Chamber Bucks, which they donated to Mahomet Helping Hands to purchase food.

“We are a community bank,” Heiser said.  “Our employees live and work in Mahomet.  We are very dedicated and interested in doing everything we can to help.”

Heiser said Fisher National Bank will continue to spend as much money as possible locally in 2013.

Fisher National Bank was also upgraded to a 5-star rating by Bauer Financial after the third quarter of 2012.

Heiser said the bank was downgraded to a 3-star level three years ago after a few delinquent loans.  The bank quickly bounced back to a 4-star rating.

“That’s kind of skewed because we are a smaller bank,” Heiser said.  “It’s based off ratios.  If you have two or three loans going bad, it impacts a smaller bank more than it would a bigger bank.”

Throughout the economic downturn, Fisher National Bank continued to have strong asset quality and their delinquency and past due loans were low.  Over the last seven years, the bank has grown from a $55 million bank to a $97 million dollar bank.

“We’ve grown quite a bit in six or seven years,” Heiser said. “I think it’s customer service that drives business.  Taking care of people, trying to give them quick responses and competitive rates.  I think that’s more important than the five-star credibility.”
