Braden Finch and Luke Koller each registered double-doubles on Tuesday (March 2) as Mahomet-Seymour’s boys’ basketball team completed a season sweep of Apollo Conference rival Mount Zion.

The Bulldogs posted a 57-50 victory on their own home court. M-S won the previous meeting by 18 points.

Finch scored 14 points and had a game-high 11 assists.

Koller hit 10 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Koller also blocked three shots.

M-S took command early, creating an 18-5 lead after the first period and increasing the margin to 32-16 at halftime.

Though head coach Ryan Bosch had no complaints about the first half, what happened thereafter wasn’t as pleasing to the Bulldogs’ boss.

“We played one of our best halves of the year in the first half,” Bosch said. “The kids came out strong to start the third quarter and extended the lead to 20 points (40-20) before we lost our edge and let our foot off of the gas.

“We allowed Mount Zion to storm back and get within five points for a moment before opening it back up and holding on down the stretch of the fourth quarter.

“I was extremely disappointed with our response to a big lead. While I want to tip my hat to Mount Zion’s kids, who played with a lot of pride and made some big shots, we did not play the game the right way and our guys know it. We’ve taught them better than that. They’ve shown themselves to be better than that and they need to be more consistent in their effort for four quarters.”

Eli Warren shared team scoring honors with Finch. They each had 14 points. Blake Wolters added 13 points.

Wolters pulled down five rebounds. Warren had four assists.

M-S (7-3) returns to action on Friday at Taylorville.
