Feeding Champaign County Food Summit 2025: Tackling Food Insecurity with Innovative Local Initiatives

The third annual Feeding Champaign County Food Summit is scheduled for February 26, 2025, at the I Hotel and Conference Center in Champaign, Illinois. This day-long event, running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., aims to tackle the pressing issue of food insecurity in the region.

Organized by Illinois Extension in partnership with Healthy Champaign County, the summit will bring together local food system leaders to develop solutions for the community’s food access and security challenges. The event will feature presentations, workshops, and networking opportunities, providing a platform for exchanging ideas and fostering collaboration.

The summit comes at a critical time, as Champaign County faces significant food insecurity challenges. According to recent data, the county has a 10.5% overall food insecurity rate, with an even higher rate of 12.2% for children. This translates to nearly 27,000 residents living with uncertain access to adequate food.

The summit aims to address these issues by coordinating efforts across various sectors. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about innovative local initiatives, such as the Mobile Food Market, which has successfully distributed over 5,000 pounds of organic produce to more than 1,000 community members. Those interested in attending the Feeding Champaign County Food Summit 2025 are encouraged to register by February 12th to secure their place at this important event.
