Fancher’s Stellar Performance Leads Mahomet-Seymour to Impressive Win Over Urbana in Girls’ Soccer
By Fred Kroner
Freshman Jaycee Fancher had a hand in every Mahomet-Seymour goal on Tuesday (March 26) as the Bulldogs upended previously unbeaten Urbana, 5-0, in a non-conference girls’ soccer match at Middletown Field.
Fancher tallied two goals and assisted on three others.
Gwen Cambron netted three goals, each one following an assist from Fancher.
Assisting Fancher on her scores were Izzy Lietz and Paislee Welge.
The Bulldogs led, 3-0, at halftime.
“The midfield had their best game yet by controlling and collectively neutralizing some dangerous Urbana midfielders,” M-S coach Jeremy Davis said. “In three games, the crustaceous defense of the Bulldogs has only allowed two goals.
“(Margaret) Moore and Welge continued to perform well in neutralizing an offense in Urbana who had been averaging seven goals a game through their first four.”
Moore had one save and posted her second consecutive shutout.
M-S (2-1) will return to action on Thursday (March 28) at Dunlap (4-0-1). Urbana has a 4-1 overall record.
