Family First Advocacy Hosts Inaugural Fundraiser to Support Students with Disabilities and Their Families

Family First Advocacy, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering students with disabilities and their families to navigate the challenges of the public school system, is gearing up for its first-ever fundraiser event. The importance of this fundraiser is underscored by the organization’s commitment to expanding its impact and reach within communities.

Founded and led by Katrina Roberts, Family First Advocacy operates on a volunteer-driven model to ensure that families facing educational and social challenges due to disabilities receive essential support without financial burden. The upcoming fundraiser, titled “Tailgate Party with a Purpose,” is set to take place on September 9, 2023, at Lake of The Woods Pavilion in Mahomet, IL.

The significance of the fundraiser lies in its potential to provide essential resources and services to even more families and students in need. Currently, Family First Advocacy offers an IEP Boot Camp to empower parents in advocating for their children’s education. However, with the funds raised from the event, the organization plans to expand its training programs to include modules on combating bullying, becoming effective advocates, and fostering true inclusion within schools and communities.

Moreover, the fundraiser will enable Family First Advocacy to host community events that promote inclusion and provide a platform for parents and caregivers to receive support. The organization also aims to provide scholarships for life coaching services, ensuring that parents and caregivers of students with disabilities receive the guidance they need to maintain their well-being while caring for their children.

The event is designed to be inclusive and family-friendly, welcoming individuals of all ages to participate. Attendees can look forward to a diverse range of activities, including a Cruise-Scavenger Hunt, a Kids Jeep and Motorcycle run, a Shine & Show competition, a bag tournament, a delectable Project 47 BBQ dinner, and live entertainment by DJ Rad Rock. The event will culminate in the announcement of awards, including the presentation of the organization’s first “That Mom” award.

All proceeds from the fundraiser will be channeled directly into Family First Advocacy’s initiatives, ensuring that the organization continues to provide essential support, education, and resources to families and communities in need.

Those interested in contributing to this meaningful cause can make donations through the Family First Advocacy website at familyfirstcommunity.org. The organization also offers sponsorship opportunities for businesses to align themselves with this impactful mission, along with the option to make in-kind donations. Volunteers are encouraged to participate in the event and will be rewarded with a free ticket to join in the festivities.

As the event approaches, the excitement and anticipation are building, with Family First Advocacy poised to make a significant difference in the lives of students with disabilities and their families. By fostering a supportive community, advocating for better educational opportunities, and promoting inclusion, Family First Advocacy aims to create a brighter future for all.
