Harvest Fest
The morning air has a bit of a bite and flannel can be seen while on a walk.
Fall nostalgia is something most people look forward to. And the Museum of the Grand Prairie will help visitors build memories during their annual Harvest Fest Saturday.
Spooky stories, hay-rack rides through the Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve, open fire cooking, scarecrow making, along with other autumn activities will run from 2 to 6 p.m.
Pumpkins will be available to paint or carve for those who pre-register.
The event costs $3 per person, children under 2 are free. Registered guests will receive one pumpkin per family or guests are invited to bring their own.

Pumpkin Ride
A cool down in temperature and leaves turning colors is the perfect backdrop for a bike ride.
The Pumpkin Pie Ride will begin at the Izaac Walton Cabin at Lake of the Woods Park Sunday.
A family fun event, a 10-mile loop will be available for families with kids and a 30-mile loop will be available for all other riders.
Pumpkin pie and apple cider will be available at the end of the ride. A $10 registration fee is required. All profits benefit the Kickapoo Rail Trail.
Lincoln Lecture Series
Illinoisans played prominent roles in anti-slavery movements preceding the Civil War.
Understanding the wide range of motivations that might lie behind any given individual’s opposition to slavery – commitment to human rights, belief in racial equality, economic considerations, and religious convictions – is important to understanding the escalation to war.
Jeanne Schultz Angel will explore the role that the Underground Railroad played in the lives of Freedom Seekers and share information about several significant slavery and anti-slavery sites in Illinois, including sundown towns. Her presentation will demonstrate the complexity of responses to the idea of slavery in the early days of statehood and link it to the impact of human trafficking in present-day Illinois.
