Early week track and field, soccer, baseball and softball results

Mahomet-Seymour athletes were victorious in eight events on Monday in a boys’ track and field dual meet against Monticello at the Bulldogs’ track.
C.J. Shoaf won three individual events and Hunter Hendershot prevailed in two events.
Shoaf swept the hurdles races, winning the 110s in 15.53 seconds and the 300s in 42.50 seconds. He also took the high jump at 5-10.
Hendershot heaved the shot put 54 feet, 3 inches and tossed the discus 172-5.
Corey Cebulski captured the pole vault (13-3) and Kyle Nofziger was triumphant in the 800 meters (2:11.74).
The other M-S victory was by its 3,200-meter relay. The foursome included Matthew Sims, Nick Mies, Taylor Fan and Gabe Wisnasky.
In the team chase, Monticello outscored M-S 82-64.
The Bulldogs also had the runner-up in eight events, including three relays.
The 400-meter unit was led by Cebulski, Grant Brown, Colin Balbach and Will Parrot and was timed in 46.15 seconds.
The 800 foursome featured Cebulski, Brown, Peter Kamp and Parrot. Their time was 1:37.88.
The 1,600 relay included Jonah Singer, Nofziger, William Larson and Richard Howard. They toured the track a combined four times in 4:09.31.
Larson was the runner-up in the 400 meters (1:06.31), and Balbach also took second in the pole vault (13-3).
Ryan Whitehouse (5-8 in the high jump), Sam Garber (122-0 in the discus) and Morrie Mendenhall (46-5 in the shot put) also placed second.
In all six field events, M-S produced the third-place finisher.
Costen Campion was third in both the shot put (41-7) and the discus (118-7).
Kamp was third in the long jump (17-0 1/2), Noah Powell was third in the triple jump (36-3 1/2), Clayton Kessler was third in the pole vault (12-3) and Tyler Lewis was third in the high jump (5-0).
Two runners added third-place medals.
Peter Slezak was third in the 300 hurdles (43.95) and Howard was third in the 400 meters (1:13.73).
M-S will return to action on Saturday in the Capital City Classic in Springfield.
Girls’ track and field
The Bulldogs had first-place performances in four events on Monday in a dual meet at home against Monticello.
The visiting Sages won team honors with 96 points. M-S had 47 points.
Lakeida Nichols was the long jump winner (16 feet, 1 1/2 inches).
Elizabeth Sims topped the field in the 1,600 meters, winning in 5 minutes, 30.31 seconds.
Emily Parrot won the high jump (4-2) and the M-S 3,200-meter relay took top honors as well.
The foursome featured Brisa McGrath, Chloe Allen, Emily Bednar and Klein Powell. Their time was 10:32.16.
Nichols added a second in the 400 meters (1:03.36), McGrath was second in the 1,600 meters (5:43.09), Mara Pletcher was second in the pole vault (11-3), Riley Watson was second in the high jump (4-0), Hailee McCall-Ochs was second in the shot put (30-5) and Sylvia Byron was second in two events: long jump (15-2 1/2) and triple jump (32-4).
The Bulldogs entered a second 3,200 relay and it placed second in 10:50.61.
The relay runners were Olivia Bunting, Gretchen Scheele, Madi Balbach and Sims.
Six M-S athletes secured third-place finishes: Ariana Lingard in the 100 meters (13.41), Destiny Pryor in the 200 meters (28.65), Balbach in the 400 meters (1:08.38), Bunting in the 800 meters (2:37.57), Cece Abramson in the pole vault (10-9) and Pryor in the long jump (14-10).
M-S will return to action on Friday at the Bloomington Invitational.
Softball
Ashley Campbell drove in Ashley Wheeler with a first-inning run on Monday, but it was the only offense the Bulldogs could muster in a 3-1 loss at home to Centennial.
The Chargers snapped a 1-1 deadlock with two runs in the top of the seventh.
Campbell collected two of M-S’ six hits.
Aubrie Shore pitched a complete game, striking out 11 and walking five. She allowed seven hits, all singles.
On Wednesday, Shore hit for the cycle as the Bulldogs posted a 12-1 win at Urbana.
She drove in four runs. Sam Tamburo was 3-for-4 and also walked once.
Kaley Yergler pitched a three-hitter, walking one and striking out 12.
At the plate, Yergler had two hits, both doubles. Carlee Scott also had two hits and two RBI.
Of the 12 Bulldog hits, eight were for extra bases.
M-S (8-4) returns to action at home on Saturday with a doubleheader against Mount Zion.
Girls’ soccer
Maddy Wade scored three goals and had an assist on Tuesday as the Bulldogs (12-1 overall) stayed unbeaten in Apollo Conference matches with a 10-0 win at home over Lincoln.
The shutout was the team’s ninth of the spring.
Teammates Nyah Biegler and Lauren Schnepper each scored two goals.
Also getting the ball in the net were Brea Benson, who scored the first goal, Cayla Koerner and Jade Harms.
Haley Lester assisted on three of the goals.
Wade and Biegler had assists as did Kelsey Jacobs, Grace Larson and Brooke Benson.
M-S returns to action today at home against Mattoon in an Apollo Conference showdown.
Baseball
Jordan Veldman, Kyle Kinney and Jack McHale all produced two hits on Tuesday as the Bulldogs ended a four-game losing skid with a 14-3 non-conference victory over Central Catholic in Bloomington.
Kinney picked up the pitching win, his third of the spring. He threw all five innings, permitting three hits. Kinney walked one and struck out four.
Offensively, McHale knocked in three runs. Driving in two runs apiece were Ben Greenberger, Kinney, Jon Latham and McFall.
Quinn Miller, who stole two bases, scored three runs.
M-S (7-4-1) returns to action on Saturday with a doubleheader at Mount Zion.
