DiFilippo picks up 250th win, Soccer wins 11th shutout, Bulldog softball steps up at the plate

Coach Nic DiFilippo’s 250th career baseball win on Wednesday came courtesy of a shutout.
Mahomet-Seymour traveled to Peru St. Bede and two Bulldog pitchers combined for the 13-0 win.
The shutout was the team’s second of the spring.
DiFilippo is in his 13th year as head coach at his alma mater and is the school’s all-time winningest coach in baseball.
Kyle Kinney worked four innings and reliever Dylan Gates closed it out.
Collectively, they allowed six hits. Kinney walked one and struck out two.
The Bulldogs have won four games in a row after snapping a four-game losing streak.
The 13-hit offensive attack was led by Jack McHale (3-for-3) and Jordan Veldman (3-for-4).
Nate McFall and Ben Greenberger each had a triple among their two hits. Kinney also collected two hits.
McFall drove in four runs.
M-S (10-4-1) will return to action, weather permitting, today at Danville.
Girls’ soccer
Seven players scored goals at home on Tuesday as the Bulldogs made Taylorville their 11th shutout victim of the season, 7-0, in an Apollo Conference match.
Alessandro Hutchison netted the first goal, assisted by Sarah Amjad, who scored the second goal.
Teammates with goals were Ainsley Jessup, Mackenzie Moore, Brooke Benson, Maddie Claybrooke and Kelsey Jacobs.
Cayla Koerner assisted on three of the goals.
Other Bulldogs with assists were Nyah Biegler, Maddy Wade and Haley Lester.
Goalkeeper Grace Larson had one save.
M-S (14-1 overall and 5-0 in Apollo matches) is scheduled to return to action today, weather permitting, at home against Mount Zion.
The last four M-S wins have been by shutouts.
Softball
All nine Bulldog starters produced at least one hit in Monday’s home game against Champaign Central and Julia McNaught socked a home run among her three hits in a 10-0 shutout over the Maroons.
Karley Yergler pitched all five innings, walking no one, striking out seven and allowing six hits.
Ashley Wheeler and Abigail Akers each registered two hits for the Bulldogs.
McNaught knocked in four runs and Akers had two RBI.
Wheeler, McNaught and Aubrie Shore each scored two runs.
On Wednesday, the Bulldogs had four players hit home runs for the first time in a game this season during a 13-1 victory over visiting Rantoul.
Shore, Sam Tamburo, Yergler and Allison Nofziger provided the long-ball action.
Yergler knocked in four runs and Nofziger drove in three.
McNaught collected three hits and Shore scored three runs.
Shore pitched a complete game, scattering four hits in a two-walk, eight-strikeout performance.
