Decker, Vrona places at IESA State tournament

Two Mahomet-Seymour wrestlers were state-placers on Saturday (March 12) at the IESA Class 2A state meet, held at the Northern Illinois University Convocation Center.
M-S had six state-qualifiers and five won at least one match.
Seventh-grader Talon Decker won three of five bouts at state and placed fourth at 112 pounds. Decker won his state opener, 9-7 in overtime, and also posted a pin as well as a 6-0 decision.
Eighth-grader Justus Vrona won three of his six state matches and finished sixth at 95 pounds. Vrona registered two pins along with a 6-0 decision.
At 75 pounds, seventh-grader Gideon Hayter was 2-2, but did not place. Both of his wins were by pin.
At 85 pounds, eighth-grader Auggie Gaudio was 1-2, but did not place. His win was by a 9-2 decision.
At 105 pounds, seventh-grader Beau Back was 2-2, but did not place. Back had one win by pin.
At 215 pounds, eighth-grader Noah Daniels was 0-2, defaulting out of both matches.
Overall, Bulldog wrestlers were 11-13 at state with six pins.
M-S was 17-4 for the season in dual meets. In the postseason, the Bulldogs won their regional, placed second as a team at sectional and ended 26th at state.
