Decker ends with 2-2 record at State meet

Mahomet-Seymour senior Gage Decker compiled a 2-2 record at the IHSA state wrestling meet and ended one win away from a state medal.
Both of Decker’s wins at 157 pounds in Class 2A at state, which ended on Saturday (Feb. 17) at the UI State Farm Center, were by pins. His falls came in 5:56 and in 3:58. His losses were by decision, 8-0 and 4-0.
Decker has a 38-12 season record.
The other M-S state competitor was 126-pound sophomore Justus Vrona, who was pinned in his first bout in 3:35 and dropped an 8-4 decision in his consolation match, which was tied, 4-4, in the final 25 seconds.
Vrona has a 38-17 season record. He was one of three sophomores to advance to state in Class 2a at 126 pounds.
M-S (16-4) will return to action on Tuesday (Feb. 20) in the dual-meet team sectional finals at Taylorville against Lincoln. The winner will qualify for state, which will be held on Feb. 23-24 at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington.
