DeAngelo Hughey places four in 200 at USATF Indoor National Championships

Mahomet-Seymour junior DeAngelo Hughey placed fourth on Saturday (March 18) in the 200-meter run for 17-18-year-old boys in the USATF Indoor National Championships, in Louisville, Ky.
His time in the finals was 22.48 seconds. He had qualified in third with a personal-best time of 22.35 seconds. The winning time was 21.89 seconds.
The 200 meters was one of two events in which Hughey earned All-America status.
Hughey led all qualifiers in the 400 meters (50.76 seconds) and was more than a second ahead of his closest pursuer in that race. He placed second in the finals on Sunday (March 19) with a personal-best time of 50.15 seconds. The winning time was 50.07 seconds.
One other Bulldog participated in the USATF championships and was also a two-event High School All-American.
Senior Cole Marshall landed a mark of 19 feet 3 inches in the long jump, also in the boys’ 17-18-year-old division, and placed fifth on Saturday (March 18).
On Sunday (March 19), Marshall was entered in the triple jump and wound up in third place, gaining a personal-best 41 feet, 1 inch on the fifth of his six jumps.

Mahomet-Seymour’s Blake Dillman won the 800-meter race on Thursday (March 16) in the 21-school, non-scored Pontiac Indoor Track and Field Invitational, held at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington.
Dillman was timed in a season-best 2 minutes, 3.08 seconds.
Ethan Ramirez was the runner-up in the 1,600 meters (season-best 4:40.82) and Hayden Grotelueschen ran third in the 3,200 meters (season-best 10:07.97).
Joshua Franklin also achieved a season-best in the 400 meters (55.05 seconds), finishing in sixth.
Pole vaulter Ty Clark was fourth (season-best 13 feet, 8 inches) and Robert Byron placed sixth in the shot put (season-best 47 feet, 4 inches).
Two other Bulldog top-10 placers also recorded season-best marks.
Grant Smysor tied for ninth in the 800 meters (2:14.15) and Ben Wallace ended ninth in the 3,200 meters (10:47.23).
Alex Carpenter finished seventh in the pole vault (11 feet, 3 inches) and Jayvon Irwin was 10th in the 60 meters (7.38 seconds).
Two M-S relays also registered top-10 performances.
The 800-meter foursome of Irwin, Travis Hoffman, Alex O’Brian and Ryken Kirby combined for a time of 1:38.61. The group took sixth.
The 1,600-meter grouping of Franklin, Hoffman, O’Brian and Jaxon Themanson teamed up for a seventh-place finish in 3:52.02.
Eleven other M-S competitors, who finished outside the top 10, also posted season-best marks, including Themanson in both the 600 meters (1:46.64 and the 60-meter high hurdles in 11.03 seconds).
O’Brian ran his quickest 60-meter time (7.92 seconds) and Hoffman posted a 9.97-second clocking in the 60-meter hurdles.
Other Bulldogs who recorded season-best marks were Niklas Minnich (26.78 seconds in the 200 meters), Mathew He (27.29 in the 200 meters), Keenan Olivero (1:06.70 in the 400 meters), Colin Johnson (1:45.80 in the 600 meters), Gavin Fan (2:30.87 in the 800 meters), Lukas Carey (4:59.48 in the 1,600 meters), Corban McMinn (12:00.48 in the 3,200 meters) and Jackson Davis (9 feet, 8 inches in the pole vault).
M-S will return to action on Saturday (March 25) in the Illinois Prep Top Times meet, also at IWU, in a meet which is considered the unofficial state indoor meet.
