Dawson Freeman runner-up at IESA state meet, Makenna Peterka finishes 12th

Mahomet-Seymour eighth-grader Dawson Freeman finished in a three-way tie for second place in the IESA single-class boys’ junior high state golf tournament.
Freeman fired rounds of 35 and 36 for a 71 on Friday (Sept. 15) at Metamora Fields, in Metamora.
He produced seven pars, one birdie and one bogey on the front nine and had nine pars on the back nine.
He finished one shot behind the state champion.
There were 79 qualifiers for the state final.
He was one of six M-S boys who participated in the IESA Regional at Eagle Ridge, in Paris, on Wednesday (Sept. 6).
At the regional, Freeman was second overall with rounds of 36 and 34 for a 70. Again, he was one stroke behind the medalist.
There were 65 competitors at the regional.
M-S placed second at the nine-school regional with a team composite of 361. Meet champion Effingham St. Anthony had a 342 total.
Other Bulldog players at the regional were Dawson Martin (21st with a 93), Will Bednar (tied for 28th with a 99), Will Martin (tied for 28th with a 99), Levi Risser (39th with a 107) and Chase Haskett (60th with a 136).

M-S had one individual qualifier in the IESA girls’ single-class state tournament.
Eighth-grader Makenna Peterka ended in a three-way tie for 12th in a field with 76 participants.
For the day, she had eight pars, seven bogeys and two double bogeys.
The girls’ tournament was held on Thursday (Sept. 14) also at Metamora Fields, in Metamora.
Peterka was one of three Bulldogs who played in the IESA Regional at Willow Pond, in Rantoul, on Thursday (Sept. 7).
She was the regional champion, carding rounds of 49 and 42 for a 91. She finished five shots ahead of the runner-up.
Also representing M-S at the regional were Katelyn Hunter (18th with a 117) and Isabella Schuble (36th with a 154).
