CUPHD hosts summer food program

Champaign, IL – The Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) is hosting the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) again this year, now through the return to school in August. The program provides free meals throughout the summer months when children are not in school.

SFSP is sponsored by the Illinois State Board of Education and will run through mid-August. All meals are free to children ages 1-18 regardless of income or residency. The following times and locations will be available:

  • CUPHD lobby located at 201 W. Kenyon Road, Champaign
    • Breakfast and lunch are provided together in one bag from 9-11AM; Grab-and-go, parents can pick up for their kids Monday through Friday
  • Mahomet Area Youth Club located at 700 W. Main St., Mahomet
    • Lunch and afternoon snack provided in one bag from 11AM-1PM; Grab-and-go, parents may pick up for their children Monday through Friday

“Many children in Champaign County rely on school meals to support adequate nutrition during the school year. The Summer Food Service Program helps bridge the gap during the summer months when it can be even more challenging for some families to provide healthy foods. We are very pleased to be able to provide this service when school is out, and support the work that the local school districts are already doing to ensure children have access to balanced meals,” according to Brandon Meline, Director of Maternal and Child Health.
