Coleman scores career-high 39 points as Bulldogs defeat Charleston

Grant Coleman scored a career-high 39 points on Friday at Charleston, leading Mahomet-Seymour to an 81-59 victory over the Trojans.
Coleman also grabbed a team-high 14 rebounds in 30 minutes of playing time.
M-S (3-1) led 22-16 after one quarter and 38-30 at halftime. Joining Coleman in double figures was teammate Kobe Essien with a season-high 12 points.
Cole Lener had nine rebounds and seven points. Jordan Veldman had four assists and Dawson Finch had three assists.
The Bulldogs return to action Tuesday with an Apollo Conference game at Mount Zion.
Girls’ basketball
For the second straight game, the Bulldogs had no players score in double figures on Thursday and lost a 59-32 decision against visiting Charleston.
The Trojans led 21-6 after the first quarter, M-S managed just 11 second-half points.
Makayla Rosenbery, Keida Nichols and Maddy Wade all scored six points for the Bulldog (3-3).
Rosenbery’s points came on two three-point shots.
M-S will travel to St. Joseph-Ogden High School tonight to face the unbeaten Spartans.
Boys’ Swimming
The Mahomet Seymour High School Boys swim team kicked off their season on December 1 with a strong winning performance over Apollo conference rivals Charleston and Lincoln. Mahomet scored 125, Charleston 88, and Lincoln 85.
Individual winners for the Bulldogs included senior Gavin Groff (200 Free and 500 Free), junior William Larson (200 IM and 100 Butterfly), and junior Ryan Whitehouse (100 Breaststroke). The 400 free relay team of William Larson, Max Katz, Ben VanSwol, and Gavin Groff also finished first.
Second place finishers included junior Evan Herriott (100 Free), sophomore Zach Orr (100 Breaststroke), and freshmen Max Katz (100 Backstroke). The 200 Medley relay team of Max Katz, Ryan Whitehouse, Gavin Goff, and Evan Herriott also finished second.
Third place finishers included senior Ben VanSwol (100 Free), junior Levi Frost (200 Free), junior Evan Herriott (50 Free), sophomore Zach Orr (500 Free), and the 200 Free relay team of Ben Jennings, Aiden Yates, Dalton DeMay, and Levi Frost.
The Bulldogs will travel to Danville High School on December 11.
