Coach Bails Running to host two running programs this summer
Beginning a running program may be difficult. Running a marathon may seem impossible. But RRCA and USATF Certified Running Coaches Joe and Kelly Bails, of Coach Bails Running LLC., want to make the process of both feats obtainable for both new and seasoned runners.
The Bails, who have trained runners for a combined 28 years, focus on running techniques and strategies along with nutrition and group training to help participants reach their goals. ‘
Women who join Kelly’s Women’s Beginning Running program will begin with 12 cycles of running one minute followed by walking one minute. Toward the end of the 8-week program, runners will be able to complete two-cycles of 18-minute runs. Participants should be able to walk briskly for 30 minutes 2-3 times per week before considering a running program.
The program, which meets on Tuesdays May 24 through July 12, begins with a run-related talk that typically lasts 10-20 minutes, covering topics such as posture, arm swing, breathing and pace. Each year, participants enjoy participating in the Fisher Fair 5K together as they cross the race finish line together.
Kelly said one of the reasons the Women’s Beginning Running Group is so successful is because participants run alongside previous program participants who mentor and support runners during each Tuesday training session.
Former participants have said that the workbook the Bails duo gives and checks each week helped them focus on at-home workouts. The booklet includes instructions for three days of running, two days of cross training and two days of rest.
Joe, who has run 30 half-marathons and 6 marathons, is also offering a 12-week half-marathon training program for the first time this summer. Participants will meet on Saturdays beginning May 28 and finish with the MAYC half-marathon on August 20.
The half-marathon running group is designed for individuals who can run at least five miles or have been running at least 12-15 miles per week and are looking to take their training to the next level or distance.
Participants will receive a detailed training plan and will meet once a week for a brief talk on various running topics, such as running form, stretching, hydration and nutrition. Each group run will include a dynamic warm-up, a long run workout, including hill work and goal pace, and a cool down with static stretching. Long runs will build from 5 miles to 12 miles.
