Are you ready to clean out your closets? Spring is often a great time to take stock of what you have and what you don’t need anymore.
A Mahomet group, looking to build relationships between people, has a great opportunity to take some of the things you don’t need anymore to help others in Illinois.
The Candle Project has come together to not only fulfill needs within the community, but through relationships, the group was connected with a State-run facility in Kankakee that helps young adults with behavioral needs transition into adult life.
The facility holds more than 500 people who are older than 17 years old.
With an abundance of gently used clothes, the group began taking clothes to the facility in the fall of 2017 and has continued to go to Kankakee throughout the winter month.
Residents are able to look through the clothes, which included pants, shirts, purses and shoes and toiletries such as lotions and shampoos and new soaps or lotions, and take what they need to add to their closet.
Mahomet-Seymour residents can participate in donating their clothes one of two ways: Mahomet-Seymour students can bring the clothes to Lisa Martin’s room by April 5 or Mahomet-Seymour residents can contact Julie LaCour to schedule a drop-off time prior to April 5. LaCour can be reached at jrules206
Once the clothes are sorted, the group will take the items to Kankakee on April 14.
