Claybrooke Secures Second Straight State Golf Berth with Strong Sectional Performance

Mahomet-Seymour senior Reis Claybrooke earned his second consecutive berth in the IHSA boys’ state golf tournament based on his performance on Monday (Oct. 7) at the sectional tournament at the University of Illinois course in Savoy.
Claybrooke shot an 18-hole total of 76 to tie for 12th individually in the 103-player field and earn the final state tournament slot.
As a junior, Claybrooke tied for 16th in the Class 2A state tournament with a two-day total of 152.
He will be the lone M-S representative when the IHSA state finals begin on Friday (Oct. 18) at Weibring Golf Club, in Normal.
Other M-S sectional participants were junior Kelton Hennesy (tied for 19th with a 79), senior Carter Henrikson (tied for 26th with an 80), senior Jacob Schoudel (tied for 36th with an 82), junior Jackson Bohm (tied for 47th with an 84) and junior Cole Thrasher (tied for 54th with an 85).
Henrikson’s score matched his season’s best.
In the team chase, M-S placed sixth in the 12-school sectional event with a composite of 317.
Normal University High won team honors with a 300, followed by Jacksonville (301) and Mount Zion (309). The top three teams all advanced to state.
