As area schools pause their meal programs for summer, the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) is stepping in to ensure local children remain nourished through the break. Beginning Friday, July 25, CUPHD’s Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) will offer free breakfast and lunch to children ages 1 to 18. The program continues weekdays until Monday, August 11.
Program Details
- Dates: July 25 – August 11, Monday through Friday
- Location: CUPHD, 201 West Kenyon Road, Champaign
- Meals:
- Breakfast served: 9:30a.m. – 11:00a.m.
- Lunch served: 12:45p.m. – 2:15p.m.
- Eligibility: Children ages 1–18
- Cost: Free (no sign-up required)
- Notes: All meals must be eaten onsite.
SFSP is sponsored by the Illinois State Board of Education and aims to bridge the food gap that can occur for many families during summer months when school-provided meals are unavailable. This initiative ensures access to nutritious meals without cost and without discrimination.
