Champaign Launches DMV+ Facility on August 4

On Aug. 4, Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias will join local officials to unveil the state’s newest DMV+ at 2012 Round Barn Road.

After months of renovations, the Champaign office will be the fifth DMV+ in Illinois, promising faster service, reduced wait times, and streamlined experiences for customers. The facility’s “DMV+” designation means staff are cross-trained to help with a full range of licensing, ID, and vehicle-related requests in one stop, including driver’s license and ID renewals, REAL IDs, testing, and registration renewals.

What’s New for Champaign Residents?

  • Fully cross-trained staff: Any employee can assist with all core driver and vehicle needs.
  • Real ID & testing: Streamlined processes for Real ID applications, renewals, driving tests, and written exams.
  • Vehicle services: Plate, sticker, and registration services now at the same counters as licensing.
  • Appointment requirements: Starting August 4, appointments will be required for vehicle plate and title services, increasing predictability for customers.
  • Efficiency focus: The DMV+ model is designed to reduce wait times and improve efficiency across the board.

Champaign’s new DMV+ follows successful launches in other cities, where customer reviews have highlighted the faster pace and reduced confusion during visits.
