Centennial defeats Mahomet-Seymour basketball in season opener

Lucas Dyer scored a team-high 10 points on Monday (Nov. 20) as the Mahomet-Seymour boys’ basketball team opened its season at home with a 67-43 loss to Centennial.

The game marked the M-S coaching debut for Adam Schonauer.

Dyer downed two of his four field goals from three-point range.

Finnley Randolph connected for eight points. Miles Woolsey had six points. Jackson Bohm and Braden Pagel each totaled five points.

Contributing three points apiece were Gavin Bailey, Jake Rothlisberger and Henry Wagner.

The Bulldogs hit half of their three-point attempts (7 of 14) along with 8 of 12 free throws.

Centennial carved out a 15-7 lead after one quarter and increased its advantage to 35-16 at halftime.

On Tuesday (Nov. 21), the Bulldogs dropped their second game in the Lincoln Eaton Tournament, losing to Belleville West, 74-45.

Bohm collected a team-best 11 points. Dyer registered nine points and Pagel added seven points. Randolph finished with five points. Connecting for four points apiece were Bailey and Wagner. Rothlisberger ended with three points. Landyn Hannah added two points.

Bohm cleared a team-high five rebounds. Dyer had four rebounds to go with a team-high three assists.

Belleville West (1-1) led, 41-22, at halftime.

M-S (0-2) returns to action on Friday (Nov. 24) against Danville in the Lincoln Eaton Thanksgiving Tournament.

Centennial followed up on its Monday win over M-S by dispatching Danville, 70-63 on Tuesday.
