Cecily Smith places third in pole vault for Class 4A IESA state track and field meet

Cecily Smith placed third in the seventh-grade pole vault for Mahomet-Seymour in the girls’ Class 4A IESA state track and field meet, which ended on Saturday (May 20) at the Eastside Centre, in East Peoria.
Smith cleared a personal-best 7 feet, 6 inches.
She was the lone seventh-grade medalist for M-S. The six points she scored enabled the Bulldogs to end in 31st place at state.
The team champion was Frankfort Hickory Creek with 41 points.
The Bulldogs had four other state entries in the seventh-grade portion of the meet.
Charlotte Sinclair captured 12th place in the high jump, tying her personal-best of 4 feet, 7 inches.
Norelle Eilts ran 18th in the 800 meters (2:35.77). In that event, she was the second of two sixth-graders who competed at the state meet.
The M-S 1,600-meter relay missed by .01 of earning state medals.
The grouping of Smith, Annie Clements, Nyla Patterson and Sinclair ended ninth in 4:29.93.
The Bulldogs’ 800-meter relay crossed the finish line in 19th place (1:59.37). The relay consisted of Joella Snodsmith, Clements, Patterson and Sinclair.

Mahomet-Seymour’s eighth-grade girls’ 800-meter relay placed fourth in the IESA Class 4A state meet.
The unit of Erika Johnson, Evelyn Hillard, Anniston Huff and Ayla Finfrock were timed in 1:51.53 in an event that had 23 entries.
The girls accounted for all five points that M-S tallied at state, helping the school finish in a tie for 32nd. A total of 48 teams scored points.
The seventh-grade team champion was Bloomington Evans, with 36 points.
The Bulldogs had state-meet entries in two other events.
In the 1,600-meter race, Taylor Mills finished in 12th place (5:32.83) and Huff took 14th (5:33.84).
The M-S 1,600-meter relay ended in 16th place.
Sharing the baton were Finfrock, Cora Ummel, Huff and Hannah Martin. Their cumulative time was 4:26.63.
