Camden Harms goes undefeated at The Clash national dual team tournament

Camden Harms was the lone Mahomet-Seymour wrestler to go 6-0 during The Clash national dual team tournament that ended on Saturday (Jan. 7) at LaCrosse, Wis.
The 285-pound Harms registered four of his wins by pin, including one in the first period.
Four teammates finished the two-day event with 5-1 records, including Mateo Casillas, who suffered his first loss after 23 consecutive wins in a 5-4 loss to an opponent from Iowa.
The Clash featured top teams from throughout the country. M-S wrestled schools from five states, including Illinois.
The 195-pound Casillas recorded pins in all five of his wins, including three in the first period.
Colton Cowley (220 pounds), Brennan Houser (182 pounds) and Tallen Pawlak (145 pounds) were also 5-1.
Houser’s wins included three by technical fall and one by pin in the first period. Crowley secured three wins by pin, including one in the first period. Pawlak produced one first-period fall and one technical fall.
Houser has 16 wins this season by technical fall and 36 for his career.
Caden Hatton (113 pounds) also had a dominant showing in Wisconsin. His 4-2 record included four wins by fall. One of those came in the first period.
Colton McClure (106 pounds) was 3-3 at The Clash, with one pin. Donovan Lewis (138 pounds) was 3-2 with first-period pin.
Other Bulldogs with pins were Reese Wilson (126 pounds) with two, Nick Demos (160 pounds) with one and Cale Hillard (170 pounds), also with one. Wilson and Hillard each completed one pin in the first period.
M-S was 3-3 in dual meets, capturing wins over North Scott (Iowa),42-29, Marian Central Catholic, 36-31, and Oak Park-River Forest, 57-21.
The Bulldogs’ losses were to Bemidji (Minn.), 45-30, Vacaville (Cal.), 47-24, and Staley (Mo.), 44-22. M-S finished second in the Seventh Division, securing that spot with the win over OP-RF.
Overall, the M-S varsity wrestlers had a cumulative 40-43 record at the event. Twenty-four of the wins were by pin as were four by technical falls. Eleven of the falls were captured in the first period.
The Bulldogs (22-7) return to action on Thursday (Jan. 12) with their first two Apollo Conference dual meets. M-S will tangle with Lincoln and Charleston in Charleston.

M-S had four entries in the girls’ division of The Clash, at LaCrosse, Wis., and three of them placed among the top eight in an individual tournament that ended on Saturday (Jan. 7).
The Bulldogs’ top finisher was Gabby Dawson (132 pounds), who was 2-2 (with one pin) and wound up in sixth place.
Teammates Kalista Granadino (114 pounds) and Kimberly Schoonover (107 pounds) both ended in seventh place. They each had one pin.
Granadino was 3-2 at the tournament and has the best season record among the Bulldog girls (9-6). Schoonover was 2-2 in Wisconsin.
The other M-S girls’ entry was Grace Payne (145 pounds).

Minus three starters (who accompanied the varsity team to Wisconsin) and unable to fill the 113-pound weight class, the M-S junior varsity team captured first place in the 15-school Pekin JV Invitational on Saturday (Jan. 7).
The Bulldogs sent 20 grapplers to the tournament and 12 secured finishes among the top four individuals. Eighteen of the M-S athletes recorded at least one victory.
The highlight for M-S came in the 195-pound weight class where two Bulldogs reached the finals. Phil Daniels prevailed by a 1-0 decision over Adain Crull.
Crull pinned three opponents to reach the finals (two in the first period) and Daniels had two falls and was 4-0 for the day. Crull was 3-1.
There was one other weight class where M-S competitors met in the final round. At 145 pounds, Hughey Allen pinned teammate Jackson Davis in 2 minutes and 26 seconds for third place.
Allen was 4-1 at Pekin with four pins, two in the first period. Davis was 2-2 in the tournament with two falls.
Other Bulldog tourney champions were A.J. Demos (152 pounds) and Deandre Hughey (160 pounds). Hughey won all four of his matches by decision, outscoring his foes by a combined 26-5 score. He did not allow a point in the semifinals or finals.
Demos was also 4-0 and captured three pins.
M-S athletes who reached the finals but settled for second place were Tyler Golden (138 pounds), Blayne Maya (170 pounds) and Hayden Hart (182 pounds).
Golden was 3-1 at Pekin with three first-period falls. Maya was 2-1 with one pin and Hart was 3-1 with two pins, one of which came in the opening period.
The M-S fourth-place finishers, besides Davis, were Auggie Gaudio (106 pounds), Grant Munds (132 pounds) and Noah Daniels (285 pounds).
Gaudio ended 2-2 with two pins, one coming in the first period. Munds was 1-2 and Noah Daniels was 2-2 with one first-period fall.
Four Bulldog non-placers landed at least one pin, including Jack Jessup (138 pounds), who ended two of his four bouts with first-period falls.
Also generating one pin apiece were teammates Preston Sriver (120 pounds), Adam Dobrucki (132 pounds) and Austin Crull (220 pounds).
Two other M-S competitors won a match at Pekin: Kody Ackman (170 pounds) and Noah Frank (182 pounds).
Overall, M-S entries teamed up for a cumulative 41-29 tournament record. Twenty-eight of the wins were by pin and 13 of those took place in the first two minutes.
M-S’ winning point total was 213 points. Sharing second place, with 182 points each, were Galesburg and Normal Community.
