Busey hosts breakfast meet and greet to discuss business along Main Street
Busey Bank, located at 312 E. Main St., hosted a breakfast for Main Street business owners Tuesday.
After breakfast, owners listened to Mayor Sean Widener and Village Administrator Patrick Brown talk about their vision for Mahomet’s business growth, business owners also had a chance to share concerns with the two Village leaders.
Brown and Widener said the Village will continue to update Mahomet’s road and water infrastructure as money allows. Brown noted, though, that some projected repairs will have to wait until funds become available. The Village was recently hit with news that Governor Bruce Rauner proposed to cut the share of income taxes the state gives to local governments in half.
Brown said business growth in the area is important to the Village because the additional income tax will help the Village make up some lost funds.
The two also noted the Village has put money into the “old town” along Main Street by displaying Christmas, planting flowers and trees during the summer and working with organizations, such as the Mahomet Chamber of Commerce and the Mahomet Economic Development Commission to promote local businesses through the Shop Where You Love campaign and events, such as the auto show and Sangamon River Music Festival along Main Street.
Owners expressed a need for customer parking along Main Street during the weekday, but especially during times when the street is closed off for events.
They also noted the Village’s commitment to customer service has been welcomed. The owners appreciate knowing when Main Street will be closed for events instead of reading about it in the paper.
