Junior Caylee Folken, junior Grace Rodebaugh and sophomore Avery Allen were named to the all-tournament team on Saturday (Oct. 9) as Mahomet-Seymour’s volleyball team won the championship at the Quincy Invitational.
M-S dispatched Freeburg (25-15, 25-15), West Prairie (25-11, 25-10) and Hannibal, Mo. (25-15, 25-14) in pool play and then collected three-set triumphs over Hartsburg-Emden (25-17, 21-25, 15-10) and Macomb (25-15, 21-25, 25-15).
The Bulldogs (23-5) have won 11 matches in a row and return to action on Thursday (Oct. 14) at home against Effingham.
On Thursday (Oct. 7), junior Libby Bodine’s 18 digs helped M-S avenge its lone Apollo Conference volleyball loss by sweeping Taylorville at home, 25-19, 25-21, to pull into a first-place tie in the league.
Folken had 14 assists and seven digs.
The M-S junior varsity lost a 20-25, 25-15, 15-9 decision to Taylorville. In the freshmen match, the Bulldogs were triumphant, 21-17, 21-13.
The underclassmen teams enjoyed a successful weekend, too.
The JV squad went 3-1 in its own tournament, and finished second. The JV team topped Bloomington Central Catholic, Eureka and Pontiac before losing to Normal University High in the title match.
The freshmen team ran the table at the Lincoln Tournament, piling up wins over Normal West, Normal U-High, Chatham Glenwood, Normal Community and Lincoln.
