Senior Nichole Taylor provided a spark on Monday (Feb. 7) as the Mahomet-Seymour girls’ basketball team avenged a 12-point loss to Taylorville by handing the Tornadoes a 55-32 loss in M-S’ Senior Night game.
The Bulldogs led, 9-0, after one quarter en route to tying the school record for wins in a season.
M-S (25-4) matched the previous record, held by the 2004-05 Bulldog squad.
Taylor tallied a game-high 16 points and pulled down five rebounds.
Another senior, Ivie Juarez, recorded her fourth double-double of the season. She put up 11 points and 10 rebounds. Juarez blocked four shots.
Senior Cayla Koerner and junior Savannah Orgeron also chipped in with 11 points. Koerner had four rebounds and three steals.
Also finishing with four rebounds was Abigail Bunting.
The team’s seniors, besides Juarez, Koerner and Taylor are Sydney Esker and Anna Lagacy. For the second game in a row, Lagacy pulled down three rebounds.
M-S returns to action on Thursday (Feb. 10) at Lincoln in its regular-season finale.
The Bulldogs are the No. 1 seed in the Normal West Class 3A Regional and will meet Rantoul on Monday (Feb. 14) in the semifinals.
