Bulldogs win doubleheader at Effingham

Senior Zach Courson was the winning pitcher in both games of an Apollo Conference baseball doubleheader on Saturday (April 9) as Mahomet-Seymour prevailed at Effingham, 5-3 and 9-0.
The fourth pitcher employed in Game 1, Courson worked the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing no hits, no runs and one walk. He struck out two.
M-S scored twice in the top of the eighth inning to snap a 3-3 deadlock.
Courson started Game 2 and pitched four scoreless innings. He scattered four hits, walked no one and fanned seven.
Alex McHale worked the final three innings, yielding one hit and striking out four batters.
Blake Wolters was the starting pitcher in the opening game and struck out 10 batters in 4 1/3 innings.
For the doubleheader, Wolters accumulated five hits, five runs scored, five stolen bases and six runs batted in. He powered a home run, as well as a double in each game.
Other offensive sparks for the Bulldogs were Carter Johnson and Brayden Smith, each with two first-game hits as well as Mateo Casillas, who drove in two runs in the opener.
For the twin bill, Smith hit three doubles.
In the second game, Carter Selk contributed two hits and two RBI. McHale scored two runs.
M-S (8-2) has a four-game winning streak and returns to action on Thursday (April 14) at Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley.
