Bulldogs win at Champaign Central Invitational

Mahomet-Seymour’s girls’ track and field teams were triumphant on Saturday in both the varsity and junior varsity divisions of the Champaign Central Invitational.
The varsity Bulldogs totaled 112 ½ points. The runner-up in the 11-team field was Cahokia with 96 points.
In the JV segment, M-S ended with 33 ½ points. Runner-up Cahokia had 24 ½ points.
M-S won three relay races – two in the JV division – and also secured a 1-2 finish in the open 1,600 meters.
Sophomore Ava Boyd (5 minutes, 44.3 seconds) outkicked senior Elizabeth Sims (5:53.4) in the 1,600.
Sims and Boyd were part of the winning varsity 3,200-meter relay. They were joined by Chloe Allen and Chloe Bundren and were timed in 10:45.3.
M-S also captured top honors in the JV 3,200-meter relay. Sharing the baton were Callie Jansen, Emily Bednar, Morgan Waisath and Lauren Bednar. Their collective time was 11:34.7.
Also placing first was the JV 800-meter relay unit of Chloe Merkle, Kara Carney, Phoebe Truax and Amaya Francom. They stopped the clock in 1:59.0.
That same foursome also paced the JV 400-meter relay unit to a third-place finish in 56.0 seconds.
Two varsity relays also featured the same four runners. The 800-meter relay quartet of Ariana Lingard, Karlie Fuoss, Meah Beacham and Lauren Burr ran second in 1:52.0.
In the 400-meter relay, they placed third in 51.3.
M-S’ varsity 1,600-meter relay of Allen, Boyd, Beacham and Burr took third in 4:46.0.
Their counterparts in the 1,600-meter JV unit placed second in 4:55.4. The runners were Jansen, Bundren, Waisath and Emily Bednar.
Lingard was a double placer in the sprint events. She captured third in the 100 meters (12.6) and ran ninth in the 200 meters (27.7).
Allen grabbed an eighth-place finish in the 400 meters (1:06.7). The Bednars ended fourth and sixth in the 800 meters. Emily Bednar was fourth (2:49.6) and Lauren Bednar was sixth (3:00.9).
Hurdler Cece Abramson took eighth in the 300-meter event (1:00.1) and later tied for third in the pole vault (8 feet, 7 inches).
Another Bulldog vaulter, Fuoss was fifth (8-2).
Versatile Grace Rodebaugh was a placer in three field events. She won the high jump (5 feet), added a fourth in the shot put (29 feet) and seventh in the discus (69-9).
Teammate Kendyl Petro was the runner-up in the discus (89-8) and placed ninth in the shot (27 feet).
Beacham ended second in the triple jump (34-1). Abi Weiss was ninth in the same event (28-4).
In the long jump, Burr was seventh (14-7) and Fuoss was 10th (14-5).
Carney was fifth in the high jump (4-4).
M-S returns to action on Tuesday (April 26) in a quad meet at home.
