Bulldogs to share Apollo Conference title

Mahomet-Seymour clinched at least a share of the Apollo conference baseball title on Saturday (May 7) by virtue of a doubleheader sweep at Mattoon.
With pitchers Blake Wolters, Zach Courson and Evan Ruzich combining for 27 strikeouts for the day, M-S prevailed 14-1 and 12-3.
The Bulldogs are 9-1 in league play with two games remaining against Mount Zion.
Wolters (6-0) fanned a season-high 15 batters in the seven-inning opener. He allowed three hits and no earned runs.
Courson (6-1) worked five innings in the second game. He permitted three hits and struck out six. Ruzich finished with two scoreless innings and fanned six batters.
Alex McHale was the lone Bulldog with two hits in each game. Also producing four hits in the twin bill was Brayden Smith. Three of his hits came in Game 1.
Wolters, Carter Johnson, Braden Houchin and Carter Selk also banged two hits in the opener.
Mateo Casillas and Chase Wagers contributed two hits in Game 2.
Wagers had five RBI for the day and Selk knocked in four runs overall.
Wolters, Selk, Casillas and Jacob Waldinger all scored four runs during the doubleheader.
M-S (18-3) has won 14 of its last 15 games (including eight in a row) and returns to action on Monday (May 9) at Prairie Central.
